Scott has positively contributed to Catholic education over 20 years – serving as an elected Trustee (DPCDSB 2010-2014), voluntarily leading Catholic School Advisory Councils (2000-2010), and acting as …a Board of Director member on the St. Andre Bessette Trust Fund (HPCDSB 2018). A confirmed Catholic, he and Cindy have been married 28 years, raised two Catholic-educated adults and Scott actively assists in his new home parish – Holy Name of Mary. A career Sales & Marketing professional, he has helped prominent Canadian companies and charities achieve record-setting revenues. Hello. I am Mary Helen Van Loon and I am the current Trustee for the Huron-Perth CDSB. I am passionate about Catholic education and the unique opportunity we have to offer high quality education in a Christ-centered …environment. As Trustee, I believe we need to meet the needs of each of our students -- physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, intellectually and most importantly spiritually -- through our continued work in mental wellness, inclusion, and differentiated instruction. As a member of the Special Education, Mental Wellness and St. Andre Bessette Committees, I am grateful for the opportunity to work toward this goal. Having worked for the Board for over 20 years, I have an in-depth knowledge of our system and its schools providing me the background needed to make informed decisions and act as a knowledgeable voice at the Board table. I strongly believe in and have demonstrated good stewardship and trustworthy, responsible use of our Board's budget.

Together my husband and I have farmed in this area for over 33 years and our four children are graduates of this system, both elementary and secondary. I am active in our Parish Cluster of St. Patrick's and St. James as a reader, Eucharistic minister, choir member and money counter. I am recent past chair of our Pastoral Parish Council where we collaborated on meeting the needs of our parishes, celebrating our faith, and invited and encouraged parishioners to become engaged. As well, I volunteer my time with youth and grief ministries and with our CWL. I am passionate about the value of, and need for, Catholic Education in our world today and am excited for the opportunity our staff and students have to celebrate their faith every day. The position of Trustee is very integral to the effective operation of the board and I have firmly accepted this position whole heartedly and effectively, as is demonstrated in the many outcomes of our recent board decisions, in which I have played a role. I want to continue to be your voice for Catholic Education at the Board table. I humbly ask for your support during the 2018 municipal election.
