Charles CHENAbout Me:
I have been a resident of Mississauga for over two decades, and have been educated through the same local school system that I hope to represent and improve as your trustee after the coming election.
I …am currently the president of Mississauga Chinese Business Association Young Professional. I am excited to transition my professional skills to better serve our city. Having a certificate in teaching English to speakers of other languages (CELTA) and experience teaching English in Canada and in Taiwan, I believe a strong education is essential to unlocking the full potential of all students. To this end, my family has also founded a school, the Canadian College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where it is my privilege to teach fundamental knowledge to students from all walks of life! I am proud to be the go-to person for questions and assistance both in and out of the classroom.
I have planned, volunteered, MCed for the Community Crime Awareness Day and planned for the Million Tree Initiative to enrich this city that has given me so much. I have also spoken on behalf of the Chinese community for both Carrassauga and Carabram cultural festivals. With such a rich and diverse culture, it comes as no surprise that Mississauga is known for being one of the most desirable cities in Ontario to live in. I believe that by prioritizing the resources available to our students, as well as teachers and administrators, regularly reviewing our policies and budget to ensure the highest productivity, and using responsible community outreach and opportunities for our students we can build an even brighter future for our city and our region. I promise to bring my passion and experience to best represent the interests of our community.
Your vote is your voice, and I hope you will call out for improvement to our current system by electing me to serve you and our schools in wards 2 and 8. Together we can live the motto of our city: "Leading today for tomorrow. More -

John MARCHANTElectedAbout Me:
John Marchant and his family planted roots in Mississauga in the early 70's, starting school in Clarkson before his family moved to Port Credit. Southern Mississauga was a great place to grow up back then …and still remains a wonderful place to raise a family.
He and his wife currently live in Ward 1. When not working at his day job, he assists his wife in running their two local small businesses, As It Happens Photography and Coach House Weddings. Through their companies they are involved in promoting Mississauga businesses and causes – be it through the local BIA, Mississauga Board of Trade, Mississauga Arts Council, 100 Women Who Care, 100 Men Who care, Eden Food Bank, the Alzheimer's Society, Kuddles for Kids, 'Twas the Bite Before Christmas and many more.
Together they love kayaking on the Credit River and enjoying all that their neighbourhood has to offer. John is also an active triathlete, having completed many marathons and an Ironman Race.
They deeply believe that communities best thrive when people give back, invest in their children and community. He feels that by running for Trustee, he can give a lot more and help make our community stronger. More -

Bassam JOHARAbout Me:
I would be honoured to serve my community as the Peel District School Board Trustee for Mississauga, Ward 5. My political science and law background has shown me that societal change starts at the local …level. And, as a parent of two, I understand that schools are the most important institutions locally – the better our schools, the better our society. I am a proud longtime resident of Ward 5 and firmly believe in the power of our public school system. As school trustee, my vision will revolve around enhancing and effectively implementing the PDSB's current "Plan for Student Success." I will collaborate with my fellow trustees to ensure accountability and transparency in accomplishing its four core goals. Firstly, to realize the PDSB's goal of student excellence, I will advocate for a needs-based funding approach that focuses on helping disengaged students falling behind in literacy and numeracy, and those with physical or learning disabilities. Students and staff need to be equipped with the proper tools to reach their full potential. Secondly, to further the PDSB goal of equity and inclusion, I will advocate keeping the Equity and Inclusive Education Policy current through regular review and consultation. I will also promote the continuous expansion of the e-module initiative to foster a deeper understanding of various marginalized communities. Thirdly, I will strive to expand the bullying awareness and prevention initiative to work towards eliminating school-related violence. Students need to feel included and safe to succeed. This is why the PDSB's goal of fostering a safe, positive and healthy school climate is of particular importance. Lastly, the PDSB goal of parent, community and staff engagement is, indeed, the most important goal of all. The PDSB's success can only be achieved with your input and advice. I am committed to keeping you informed and engaged, so that together, we can bring all of these goals to life! To this end, I will help develop the PDSB's comprehensive plan for parent and community involvement. As your school trustee, I will work tirelessly to ensure that the Peel Board's mission of inspiring "success, confidence, and hope in each student" is fulfilled to the utmost. A vote for Bassam Johar is a vote for the better. Let's make the PDSB better – together! More

Jal PANTHAKYAbout Me:
BACKGROUND:
My family and I moved to ward-5 of great City of Mississauga in 1983. All our four children graduated from Peel School Board System and my grand children are also in Peel Schools. I …have Diploma in Mechanical engineering from University of Bombay India. HVAC design certificate from McGill University, Refrigeration design from City and Guilds of London. Certificate in Health and Safety from Sheridan.
CHALANGE: Our city and our schools will face big decisions in the coming four years: balancing the budget, re-imagining our facilities, strengthening our relationship with parents and the community, all while maintaining and extending Peel School Board reputation for educational excellence. I'm running to bring three important qualities to the school board:
EFFECTIVE CONTROL: I will ensure that every dollar Board spends results in a dollar's worth of educational improvement. As a past founding board of Directors, and past president of a charitable organization, a past entrepreneur and operations manager of a division of City of Toronto, I've always had to balance a budget, and I've had to implement new and innovative approaches to tackle complex problems and make decisions.
We need to close the achievement gap: we do a good job serving students at the top and bottom but not middle. We need cost effective ways of closing that gap, like the high-demand skills and vocations that will prepare our students for the 21st Century. I will be a strong advocate for our children and our community and an effective guardian of your money.
GOOD GOVERNANCE: I strongly believe in to improving transparency, accountability, and inclusive decision-making in Peel School Board. From my experience serving on Various positions on boards, I will make sure the organization runs well.
Our schools should benefit our entire rate payers' community, not just those of us with children in the schools.
When elected, I'd support efforts to contain operational costs while maintaining or enhancing student outcomes. Encourage true budget transparency to meet the needs of our students and teachers while protecting our taxpayers from needless spending and a comprehensive plan to optimize facilities investments;
A vote for me is a vote for good governance, evidence-based decision-making and schools that work for our whole community. More -

Vijay BRAHMBHATTAbout Me:
I am living in this nice city since I landed in 1999 from India. I am holding university degree in Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Civil Engineering. I am a Certified Engineering Technologist -C.E.T.-, …designated by OACETT. I am a father of Son studying at York University & Daughter studying in The Valley Senior Public School.
My parents were elementary school teacher; who encourage me in my early days and I had successfully completed my university degree though born in remote area with less educational facility. Like many educated immigrants, I had started my career with odd jobs due to lack of Canadian education & experience. Today I am working as a Quality Control Supervisor in a manufacturing industry.
Community Involvement:
I had volunteered as school council chair in T. L. Kennedy Secondary School, Briarwood Public School, The Valley Senior Public School and actively participated as a school council member at Thornwood Public School.
Why I am running:
I know how hard for working parents to look after child's education particularly in elementary and secondary school. Not enough time to look after kids education due to our work schedule. Sometime educated in other county we are not familiar with Canadian Education system, particularly selecting career related course in high school. As a father of young kids I went through this period. I assure my voters that I would be their representative in board and will act as a bridge between community and board. I will try my level best to get enough funds to meet the funding requirement for school, transportation, educational innovation and academic excellence of students and will make sure it spends rightly where mostly needed. I would be accountable to my electorates. Safety at educational institute, positive environment for students where they fill happier while learning to achieve their career goal and contribute to our community is my priority. Our kids need improvement and they can provide proper way of study in certain subject for example like Math and science. I would represent as a member of board & member of community & closely works with local MPP, MP in the interest of educational institute, students, and staffs & for community. I am a sincere, responsible and energetic candidate can fulfill my responsibility very well if I am given chance by you. I am available to my voters for via phone, email, text and through social media and personal meeting from morning to evening for any question/concern related to education issue.
It's time of competition, it's time for change so to give shape to our kids education, I appeal to all voters of my wards particularly young & first time voters, please use your right and responsibility of vote and give me a chance to serve you and future of our next generation.

As …a parent volunteer for 20+ years, I was active in many capacities within the Peel District School Board, on municipal and provincial committees; my desire to become a Trustee grew from this involvement.
My husband David and I have lived in Mississauga for 35+ years, have a son and a daughter, both educated in Ward 3 PDSB schools, both happily married, and we have 8 incredible grandchildren.
I have a solid business background, and until I was elected in 2010, was Volunteer Development Manager, School Outreach Coordinator, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Canada)
I believe strongly in community involvement, and have volunteered for many charities and organizations, among them 30+ years with the Canadian Cancer Society, and served on the Boards of Ecosource and Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Services.
As a Trustee, I am responsible for the effective operation of schools, reviewing and implementing Ministry of Education policies, and advocating for students by promoting high achievement and mental and physical well-being. In order to most effectively benefit students, I have served on many committees within the Board, and as Chair of the Audit, Regional Program, Trustee Review Committees & Co-Chair of our Special Education Advisory Committee.
I am proud of all I have accomplished in the past eight years as an advocate for public education. Experience has taught me many things, but we have much work to do.
I see Equity for all students, Special Education services, Transportation, and both student and staff Mental Health and Well-being as areas needing increased & sustained focus as we begin a new school year.
I am an enthusiastic, responsive, persuasive advocate for fair and equitable access to excellent education for all students, an effective communicator and a strong leader. I believe in personal responsibility & parent/community involvement. I believe I am in the best position to represent Wards 3 & 4 in Mississauga as we continue the work necessary to improve educational outcomes for all our students.

Dear Voters,
I live in Ward 6 with my husband and four school-aged children. I have been a resident of Mississauga for over 30 years and attended school in the Peel region from K-12. I love this …community and want to play an active part in creating the best education system
for our students in Mississauga. I am running for School Board Trustee to ensure that the issues that are most important to parents will be the priority. Since the last election in 2014, math scores for students in Peel have continued to drop and the busing delays are on-going. These are just some of the fundamental issues that I will work to resolve. I will also focus on funding for mental health and wellness support for students including the hiring of mental health professionals in public schools. I will advocate on important issues that affect your children's education and values and help parents navigate changes in the curriculum.
I have held a number of positions throughout my career that have given me experience in project management, IT management, strategic sourcing, business improvement, communications and marketing. My background combined with my motivation to see all students succeed in Peel, will mean a dedicated, responsible and forward-thinking school trustee, who understands the challenges we face as parents to ensure our children thrive in the system. Christopher Suart TAYLORAbout Me:
I am a part of this community. I am a true citizen of Mississauga.
You may have seen me jogging or walking my dogs through Sugar Maple Woods. You've probably said 'good morning' to me by the tennis …courts and dog park near John Fraser. We have probably crossed paths in Erin Mills Town Centre.
What you may not know is that my life is also built on education.
My parents are both educators – my mother was a primary school principal, and my father taught at a high school in Mississauga. My sister is a French Immersion teacher, also in Mississauga.
I was born and raised in Mississauga, and lived in Ward 9 since I was three years old. I have seen and experienced firsthand how Ward 9 and 10 have grown at an incredible pace in the past few decades, specifically the number of new English Public Schools.
I was born, educated, and deeply connected to the public education system in Mississauga. I believe that our education shapes who we are as people in the world.
It has shaped who I am.
I went to primary, secondary, and even university in Mississauga, at the University of Toronto – Mississauga (UTM). The public education system we provide our children here in this city is the best. I am a product of this system and it's time for me to say 'thank you' and give back just a little bit of what this city has given me.
The public education system here has given me the tools to earn a PhD at one of Canada's best universities. I currently work in professional development for the Government of Ontario and teach at the University of Waterloo and Laurier University.
I want every single student in Ward 9 and 10 to have the same opportunities that I had. I want them to have the opportunity to be the best that they can be.
For the past four years, I have participated as a stakeholder member at one of the many committees at the City of Mississauga, and now want to unite my dedication to education to my civic responsibility.
I am planning on living in Mississauga – and Ward 9 – for the rest of my life. I am committed to serving the place where I live and the place that has made me who I am.
I will proudly represent this community with same values that I bring to my classroom – openness, objectivity, and fairness. More

Dmytro BASMATAbout Me:
My name is Dmytro Basmat, I've lived in Bolton for the past 5 year with my family, and I want to become your Public School Trustee to make a difference in the lives of students. While my opponent will …talk about experience, I'll talk about something more important - vision. We need to put a focus on the BIG issues in Caledon and our School Board. Whether it be providing mental health resources, a poverty reduction strategy, or leveling the playing field with technology and busing allocation. As a Ryerson University student I know first hand about the issues that young people are faced with, I've seen it myself coming out of high school only 2 years ago. It's time for us to think BIG!
My experience comes from my work in mental health non-profits, a drug harm reduction students group, and being a main advocate for the Peel Youth Charter. This, along with the fact that I am the only Trustee candidate in Caledon with an outlined platform and vision, is why you should elect a young, energetic leader that cares about his community and students.

Lynne LAZAREAbout Me:
MY PLEDGE: Working with parents and schools to provide the best quality of education that every child deserves.
As a person with a passion for education, my intention for becoming a Trustee is, in fact, …for the sole purpose of being just that, an advocate for children and parents in their quest for a better education. I will not use this position as a stepping stone in hopes of launching a political career as so many do who follow their paths beyond the role of Trustee. I want to assure the Brampton school community that my focus is entirely about being your school board representative, to listen with an open mind to parents and children, to be your voice as liaison between the school community and the school board as we promote and resolve issues of concern together.

· Budgeting decisions taking into account the cultural makeup, socioeconomic factors, and demographics of the community
· Working with parent councils and schools to create conditions that help promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills in children, including eliminating math phobia
· Listening to parent councils to hear what they truly want in terms of the curriculum, for example, the sex ed curriculum
· Seeking ways to partner with local businesses as a means of educating students for the jobs of the future and to encourage student leadership
· Allocating funds for sports activities in such a way that it levels the playing field for all families (i.e. affordable for all, not just some)
· Ensuring the Education Act is properly interpreted and adhered to
· Setting in motion a plan to redesign and implement Indigenous Studies
· Bringing an awareness of and seeking ways to eliminate mental health issues in students

Other Considerations
The lifespan of my career has always been education-based.
In my role as teacher and organizer of school or community events, I always saw the need to invite and include the School Trustee whenever possible. In my role as School Trustee, I would always make it my business to participate in the life of the school.
In my role as teacher of the Health curriculum, I have witnessed the impact of the different approaches to the teaching of sex ed. I bring this experience to my position as School Trustee regarding any necessary decision-making in this regard.
I am committed to always striving to be that all important: Link2Learning
I have been running throughthis community for 36 years, now I wish to run forthis community as Public School Board Trustee. I will bring the same dedication and persistence to my role as your Trustee, should I be fortunate to be elected. Thank you for listening. I will now listen to all of you....
I look forward to working with parents and
schools to provide the best quality of education

Safety & Equitable Education are important areas that I will want to immediately work on. With my past experience as a Youth Integration & Program Facilitator, as well as a Youth Job Developer, I bring …experience that no other candidate brings to the table. I has mentored youth-led non-profit organizations that started in Ward 9 & 10, as well as mentored some very succesful young adults in my community. I volunteer as a youth leadership leader to help our young people towards successful and better choices. I have worked with reputable and long standing organizations like TCET, United Achievers and Carabram. I have facilitated a Youth Arts Initiative project & Youth Entrepreneurship Meet ups. I believe in the saying that "it takes a village to raise a child", so open and transparent communication between the community and our educators is a big way towards helping a child grow into a successful well rounded adult. Ashman KHROADAbout Me:
I am an ordinary citizen with a vision. A vision of equitable society where every person has an opportunity to succeed. The pathway to success starts in the education system, it starts in Kindergarten! …The education system is the foundation of our society. I was a student in Ward 10 from 2005 until 2012. At present, I am a resident in Ward 9. In 2012, I began my undergraduate studies at York University and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Commerce (Specialized Honours in Accounting). Currently, I am in the final year of law school at University of Western Ontario. As a former member of Canadian Armed Forces, I worked with youth in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets program. Additionally, I was a Constituency Assistant in the Office of Hon. Bal Gosal, former federal Minister of Sports. I know the importance of communication between elected representatives of the community and their constituents.
As a former student of Peel region who has completed an undergraduate degree and is in the process of completing a professional degree, I have had many positive experiences during my school days. However, I have also first-hand experienced difficulties that can be eliminated with a better public education system. The problems are increasing rather than decreasing. We need to eliminate the problems. We need to take action now. We need to work hard for the students of Peel Region. We can eliminate the problems by working together to ensure the success of all Peel Students. I promise to create an even playing field for all students, irrespective of their differences. I promise to increase parent involvement in all the important decisions being made by the Peel District School Board.
I am not an extraordinary person, I am one of you. If I am elected as your school trustee, we will work together to create an education system that works for every single student. Together, we will ensure that every single student in Wards 9 & 10 has all the resources they need to succeed in school. More -
