-Volunteer at Camp Aush-Bik-Koong (a children’s camp) including several years on the board of directors

-The proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren 5 who now attend ADSB schools and two looking forward to attending ADSB schools

-Part of a team of trustees and administration that planned for and advocated to renew our schools. I am excited to see the transformation over the past number of years with our newest school Boreal French Immersion opening this September.

-Keenly aware there is more work to do. One indicator of our success is the EQAO test scores. The ADSB administration along with trustees have developed a board improvement plan that addresses our need for improvement. This includes plans to work with school principals and teachers on school improvement plans.

-I am also excited about our new online presence for parents. We are developing a plan where parents can check their children’s progress online. This will be an excellent tool to keep parents informed about new courses of study, homework assignments and upcoming tests.

It is essential that trustees work together collaboratively with Board Administrators and provide the leadership required so our students can be Confident Learners and Caring Citizens.

If elected I will bring the same hard work, straight shooting integrity I have demonstrated as a City Councillor for the past 12 years. I will listen to the residents of ward 2 regarding your suggestions …and concerns. I will welcome all input and comments as to how we can improve student achievement in order to provide the youngest citizens of Algoma District, and our community, with the tools to support them as they grow and take their place in our future.

I was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie. I left to enter Humber College in Toronto and remained in Toronto for ten years working in the travel and tourism industry.

Returning to the Sault was a great opportunity to be closer to family. I became the first Manager of Marketing and Tourism for the city's Economic Development Corporation and was the lead marketer of our community for 14 years. I love to be engaged in the community. I have been actively involved volunteering on various Boards such as Sault College, the Art Gallery, the Crisis Pregnancy Centre and the Board of Managers at my church, Westminster Presbyterian.

I successfully ran for City Council in Ward Two in 2006, 2010 and 2014 and was the first woman member of Council to represent Ward 2. While on City Council, I sat on many different Boards and Committees throughout 12 years. I chaired a number of different committees. I bring a great deal of experience in terms of being a member of a board and seeking to hear the wisdom of the whole to arrive at good decisions. A necessary trait in a Board Trustee.

During this last term of my three terms on City Council, I have become increasingly concerned about student achievement. One of the stated goals of the Algoma District School Board is to develop the students of Algoma District as “Caring Citizens”. I want to bring my civic experience gained as a City Councillor to the position of Trustee on the ADSB and help move the yardstick towards improved outcomes in order that our students might shine even brighter.

One fulfilling career accomplishment for me was the development and implementation of the city's first ever marketing brand logo and slogan “naturally gifted”.

I believe our children are part of our “naturally gifted” community in the Sault and throughout Algoma. Each child has been created with unique and special gifts that we as the education leaders, must foster and promote and support in order that these young people can indeed grow and take their own special place in the future of our communities.

A piece of trivia…my “claim to fame” - is the creation of the Girl Guide Chocolatey Mint Cookie!! Girl Guides of Canada credits me with this while volunteering on their Provincial Marketing Committee. Girl Guides is an organization from which I learned a great deal about mentoring and encouraging our young folks.

As a Civic Leader, I especially enjoyed leading the City's 100th Anniversary celebrations in 2012, as Management Chair of Celebrate 100! and I was the Chair of the Mayor’s Committee on Canada 150 last year. I believe in community celebration and a sense of “Place”. We must create a safe and positive “Place” for our children in the education sector of our community.

I consider the job I am completing, as a City Councillor to have been a great privilege and truly an honour. I consider the role of Algoma District School Board Trustee to be even more of a sacred trust as it deals with our most precious citizens, our children and youth. More

As a Senior Electrical Planner working out of Central Trades at Algoma Steel, I am witness every day to the increasing need for engineers and tradespeople. As our senior tradespeople and technical specialists …retire, we simply don't have enough people filling in the ranks – and this is not just happening in Sault Ste. Marie, but all over Ontario. These are good-paying, stable jobs. While all post-graduate education is valuable, it is important that students are aware of the opportunity that is working in trades. I want to be the advocate for this opportunity, and that is why I am running for ADSB Ward 3 Trustee.

For over 15 years, I have been a committed member of Sault College's Electrical Advisory Committee, which consists of various industry representatives. Committees such as this are mandated by the province to ensure that trades programs produce graduates who will meet the needs of employers. I am proud to say that Sault College hosts an excellent Electrical program taught be excellent instructors. Pursuing trades truly prepares students for life after graduation.

I have recently been elected to my second term as Trustee on the Executive of United Steel Workers Local 2724, and prior to that held both Guard and Guide Executive positions. As such, I have extensive experience with collective agreements and negotiating as part of a team that will be valuable as an ADSB Trustee. From an education perspective, I have both an Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma from Sault College and a Diploma in Photography from Fanshawe College – two very different programs that give me a well-rounded perspective on post-graduate education.

On a personal note, I am a happily-married father of three great kids. My youngest just graduated from Grade 8 at Pinewood Public School, and all three now attend White Pines C. & V.S. I was raised in Sault Ste. Marie, I'm a supporter of the arts, and I have a love for the outdoors. In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering with different youth activity groups. I am the past President of the Navy League of Canada Sault Ste. Marie Branch and I am currently a member of the 2310 Royal Canadian Army Cadets sponsoring committee. As a passionate and committed father and northern Ontarian, I look forward to running for Ward 3 Trustee and the opportunity to continue advancing education with ADSB for Sault Ste. Having recently retired after a long and successful career as Commissioner of Community Services with the City of Sault Ste Marie, I would now like to give back to our community. I believe my experience …and demonstrated integrity position me well to successfully carry out the duties of trustee. I am confident, that with your support, I can bring a new level of expertise and focus to the Board.

The education system is of the utmost importance to me because our future relies on the effective education of our youth.

Experience:

1. Commissioner of Community Services - Corporation of the City of Sault Ste. Marie (15 years) with numerous responsibilities including:

a. Oversight of the Municipal Day Care Division including development of Best Start Program and integration into schools.

b. Oversight for the following municipal committees

i. Municipal Heritage Committee

ii. Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

iii. Cultural Advisory Board

c. Developed and provided written reports and recommendations to City Council on Operational, Programming, Financial, Human Resources and Long-Range Planning issues.

d. Staff Lead for major construction projects such as the John Rhodes Community Centre, GFL Memorial Gardens (formerly the Essar Centre), Northern Community Centre (indoor soccer and library).

3. Former Director of the Parks and Recreation association for the Province of Ontario (PRO).

4. Knowledgeable and experienced in the role and responsibilities of Board Members of large corporations/ organizations.

My name is Sandra Edwards and l am running for Re-election as your Ward 5 Algoma District School Board Trustee in the October 22/2018 election. I am a proud Grandmother of Seven Grandchildren with-in our …school system. I have been employed full time at Great Northern Retirement home for the past 26 years. For the last twenty plus years I have mentored Special Education students from the White Pines/Davey Home Field School. It has been very rewarding to help these students to build their job skills and most important their confidence.

My name is Drew Craig. I am 33 years old and I have a 11 year old daughter. I am engaged to the most beautiful, brilliant & caring fiance Lisa. For 30+ years I have lived in Goulais River and I am a Graduate …of Mountian View PS & Bawating C & VS. I played high school football at Bawating. The discipline, structure and resiliency that we obtained translated in spades as the majority of players were a part of the Northern Football Conference & Canadian Major Football League Sault Steelers Champions of the late 2000's.

I have been a fourth generation Steelworker at Algoma Steel since 2018. I am currently a Trustee for my Local Union 2251, Chair of LU2251 Political Action Committee, District 6 Political Action Committee LU2251 Member, NextGen Regional Representative for Northeastern Ontario as well as being Assistant to the Course Instructors for USW Vote School in Sudbury this past May.

During the Provincial Election I volunteered for Michele McCleave-Kenndeny NDP candidate as her Voter Contact Organizer. I also volunteered on election day for NDP MPP Michael Mantha in my home pole as the Get Out The Vote Organizer & the Indoor/Outdoor Scrutineer.

Since last November, I have been working with NDP MPP Scott Duvall's office for his private members bill C-386 to #EndPensionTheft. Most recently I met with Liberal MP Terry Sheehan & we discussed the bill as well as steel tariffs and tube and steel dumping to name a few.

I have what it take and more to help shape our next generations of Business Owners, Welders, CEO's, Seasonal workers, Trustees, MPPs, MPs & even Prime Ministers.

My name is Sheryl Evans-Price and I am seeking re-election as English Public ADSB Trustee representing Prince Township and Sault North Unorganized Townships. I believe that our community needs knowledgeable, …passionate, and strong representation at every level of government. My family and I have been living in Northern Ontario for more than a decade. Our children go to a wonderful unique rural school in our community. It has been a great privilege serving as an ADSB Trustee for the last four years. I have been Vice-Chair of ADSB for two years and am sitting for my second year on the Policy Work Team at OPSBA. I am passionate about my community and public education. I have been a strong community advocate for many years. I am an advocate for parents and students, I am passionate about Indigenous education, Indigenous language learning, and moving forward the TRC recommendations. As a resident of Wawa since 1989, I have 2 sons that have graduated from Sir James Dunn Public School and Michipicoten High School. I have served the Communities of North Algoma and Chapleau as Trustee …since 1994. I look forward to a new term with enthusiasm, knowing the value of this important position of responsibility.

I have Served ADSB as Chair for 2 years, Vice-Chair for 4 years. Committees of special interest have included Principal & Vice-Principal Selections, Director & Superintendent Selections, Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC), and many others over the years.
