Joyce is an advocate for inclusion and for transparency while working with parents, community partners and other stakeholders. She has had experience with the WRDSB as an elementary and secondary teacher …and International Language School administrator. She was elected as a sitting Trustee in 2003-2006 and served on many Board Committees. She was one of the few Trustees able to sit on the negotiating teams since other Trustees had a conflict of interest. She has experience on the Program Review, Special Education Advisory Committee, Good Schools Committee, and varying committees set up to look at short term concerns. She was instrumental in putting forth a motion to reverse the closure of Southwood Secondary School located in Cambridge. She is a retired teacher/administrator having taught at all levels from SK to grade 10 as well as being the administrator of 6 locations that ran 18 different International Languages programs from SK to grade 12. She is a presently a volunteer of many community organizations including Nutrition for Learning, KW Water Polo, Children’s International Summer Villages and Youth for Understanding. She is a strong supporter of children’s leadership programs including WE as well as mentoring and special education programs beyond and in the classroom. She is an advocate for parents as they interact with the School Board assisting with procedures and helping to interpret School Board policy both locally and provincially. Joyce received the Women of the Year Oktoberfest award in the Multicultural category. She is knowledgeable, fiscally responsible and experienced for the role. More

Kathi has a passion for public education. Her involvement with education began when she was the chair of the Education committee for the Chamber of Commerce. She is seeking re-election for her final term …as trustee for the WRDSB. Her primary focus is to see the implementation and results of a fair and equitable hiring practice for the WRDSB; see full engagement of all stakeholders in the Region with the WRDSB and innovative ways to generate revenue for the WRDSB to insure that students are not impacted by budget restraints. Kathi has served on or chaired a wide variety of committee within the Board. She is currently on the Parent Involvement Committee, the Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee, the Program Review Committee, the Discipline Committee, the Accessibility Committee and Chairs the Audit Committee for the Board. She represents the WRDSB as a Director on the Ontario Public School Boards Association and also serves as a member of the Program Work Team representing Central West Region of the same association. Kathi is an advocate for children and youth, having spent most of her working career working with young people. One of her favourite involvements on the WRDSB is serving as the Trustee Mentor for the Student Trustees and for the Student Senate. Kathi believes that all students can learn and succeed and works to insure that education prepares our youth for now and the future. She has served both as Chair and Vice Chair for the WRDSB. Kathi is an instructor at Conestoga College in the School of Business & Hospitality. She is active in her community as Past Chair of the Chamber of Commerce; Rotarian and Trustee of the KW Awesome Foundation. Her Rotary Club has a focus on children and youth and provide funds to schools in need to support children. Kathi works to make a difference in the Waterloo Region for all kids. She believes in collaboration within the Region to provide the best education possible for students and supports the many partnerships that are working to make sure all students can learn and succeed in all aspects of their lives. She believes in Nelson Mandela’s quote Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Kathi’s desire is to continue to work on behalf of children and their families to so that all students can receive the best education possible. More

As a current WRDSB Trustee for Waterloo-Wilmot and Vice Chair of the Board, I am a strong advocate of public education and a champion for our children, parents and educators. I am an effective Trustee …who has the privilege of hearing how decisions we make at the Board table effect students, parents and educators each and every day; My wife is a dedicated grade 1 teacher and we have 4 young children. Each night we sit down to a family supper and we have the same conversation that thousands of parents have each night with their children: “what did you do at school today?”. Each night I hear all about play-based learning from our 3 year old in full-day kindergarten, I hear about the impact of our literacy programs for primary grades from our son in grade 1, I get to read the blog that our son in grade 4 writes in as he uses technology in the classroom and experiences project-based learning. Each night I get to hear how Board and Ministry initiatives are being implemented directly from a teachers’ perspective. I use these experiences to help inform my decisions at the Board and better engage parents and stakeholders in our community; I relate to their challenges, I work to understand any differences and look for solutions that have a positive system impact. I will work to support our public education system that has a goal to support student achievement, to help my kids and yours. I look forward to your support on October 27th. More
