First elected in 2003, I have served as Chair of the Board (as well as on a variety of committees), served as Vice Chair. Currently in 5th year as President of the Ontario Public School Boards Association …(OPSBA), and 5th year serving on the Board of the Canadian School Boards Association.

Variety of volunteer opportunities in my community including 25yrs on Newcastle Community Hall Board, 6 years on Clarington Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee, Courtice Rotary, Founding partner of Newcastle Family Connection (family resource centre).

I am a passionate supporter of Public Education and I believe School should be a safe, welcoming place for all. Plus

I am seeking election as your Trustee for the Kawartha Pine Ridge Board (Clarington). I have had the honour of representing the City of Oshawa for the past five terms serving in the role of Chair and Vice …Chair for 10 of the past 19 years. I have also served as President of the Ontario Public School Boards Association (OPSBA) and sat on the executive of OPSBA for 11 years as a provincial leader and voice for public education. I have also served on the Canadian School Boards Association as well.

I for the past 15 years been a resident of Kawartha Pine Ridge Board (Somerglen Farm) and look forward to representing a community that is close to my soul and my retirement.

I have long been a strong advocate for public education – having once upon a time, taught within the old Etobicoke Board (prior to amalgamation). I have for the past two decades worked with Ontario's largest dairy co-operative and since 2014 been President & CEO. I have had the opportunity to lead, teach (both nationally and internationally) on good governance, always a skill set that is needed and in demand.

I have raised my 6 children and now am doing the same with my 8 grandchildren (and hoping to have more) of which 4 are currently attending school within KPR (and the baby just a little young to attend). My roots are long and deep within public education.

I am a graduate of the University of Toronto, a holder of a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario, attended Rotman School of Business for the Human Resource Certification and am currently working on achieving my certification from the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD). I believe in lifelong education.

As your trustee I will,

1. continue to advocate for changes in the current funding model for special education and public education.

2. continue outreach to the community through recognition of the unique needs of each community and engagement

3. recognize the changing diversity of our community and to insure an equitable reflection of our citizens

4. recognize that well-being for our students and staff is critical; understanding the impact of all facets of what happens in a child life and the difficulties that occur; advocating for a model that supports families and children when gaps are recognized.

5. Advocate that Public Education is a partnership that needs to be encouraged and supported for the success of our children. Community and Education needs to be linked.

My name is Pranay Gunti, running for the position of a school Trustee, Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board.
I live in Bowmanville with my wife and two children who are attending the school under …KPRDSB.

I am an information technology professional and was a teacher in a private school in India and was a private tutor. I hold a master’s degree in computer applications.Last 2.5 years were unprecedented and we need unconventional decisions to overcome the situation. I believe, having experience working in diverse areas, I can work with the board to bring innovative ideas to improve the policies and programs.

Priorities as a Trustee

1. Propose to design short-term programs to fill the gaps caused by pandemic

Programs like additional tutoring will help the children to fill the gaps by recruiting additional staff. We ran the schools during the pandemic which filled the time but couldn’t impart the knowledge due to several reasons. Today, many of the students are lacking in the basics. Need to focus on all the areas- Language, Math, Science, Arts and physical fitness.

1. Address issues of children with special needs

We need to recruit ECE’s on a large scale. Young children being at home during pandemic couldn’t progress enough in social, motor and adaptive skills. Currently there is only 1 ECE for almost 5 students.

2. Safety and health of staff and students –

On an average there are around 4-5k violence incidents being reported at schools every year. We need to design programs to root out the violence at schools without which we couldn’t make schools a safer place for students, teachers and workers.

There is a large influx of students to school this fall and there should be a standard set for cleanliness and hygiene. If we have one, we need not to ask for it. It becomes the responsibility.

4. Propose new schools proportionate to increase in population.

5. Improve transportation for students.

Let me be your voice this time. I will walk an extra mile and put relentless efforts to better programs and policies. I will always use my discretion in collaboration with other board members to address the concerns and issues of the students and families of Clarington.

My name is Tenzin Shomar and I am running to be one of Clarington's next public school board trustees. Public education is one of the most important issues in Clarington. As our community grows, it's critical …that our community gets the new schools, improved busing, and increased funding that Clarington desperately need from the provincial government.

As a life-long Clarington resident, I have the experience and principles to be a strong advocate for public education in Clarington, an advocate who will bring a fresh voice and new ideas to guide our school board in its discussions. As a Youth Councillor and Executive Director of the Clarington Youth Council, I fought for the issues that matter to youth, such as public transit and youth unemployment. When I was just 15, I pushed for the public disclosure of municipal council expenses to improve accountability in government. And as KPR Student Trustee, I worked with Senior Administration and the Board of Trustees to advocate for the student voice and increased representation. I am also a KPR graduate, so I have witnessed first-hand how board decisions affect students in the classroom.

I am seeking election to become your Trustee for the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board representing the City of Peterborough. I was honoured to have been elected as a Trustee during the 2014 – …2018 term of office. Having been defeated in 2018, I have returned to the race and I’m asking for your vote.

I am a strong advocate for public education and for much of my working career held both teaching and administrative positions within the post-secondary environment. I spent 25 years with Fleming College in both teaching as well as administrative role in the form of Chair for the School of Business and a period of time as Associate Dean for the School of Trades and Technology.

Since my retirement from the college I have served on the Board of Directors for Showplace Performance Centre and currently serve as the Board Chair.

It is this wealth of experience that I can bring to the role of Trustee. As your Trustee I will:

1. Work to ensure equity throughout the school board so that every student has the opportunity to succeed regardless of background, identity or personal circumstances.

2. Work to ensure more robust and timely communication between then community and their Trustee representatives.

3. Advocate for improvements to current provincial funding with an emphasis on the need to improve access to funding to support children with special needs.

I believe that Publicly Funded Education is a cornerstone to our future. It not only seeks to provide the best and most equitable opportunities for the education of our children, but, through our local boards across the province, becomes a link that aids in the growth of the broader community. I am a grandfather, retired secondary teacher and consultant, Part-time Faculty of Education Instructor, Provincial subject association president, author of a book on assessment and Arts Program leader. …I have worked within both the KPRDSB and the Peel DSB. I have served one term as Trustee and been elected by my peers to chair the Program Review Committee. I also serve on the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Expulsion Committee and others. I believe that education is more than preparation for a job: It's preparation for a good life as a good citizen. I believe the Arts play a vital role in education and that the variety of program offerings must be protected to allow ALL students to follow their own pathway to success. Technology should not replace teachers, but our school systems need to adapt constantly to the changing technological world in which we live. Schools play a vital role in the environmental stewardship that is needed now more than ever. Equity, Inclusion and respect for diversity is our only path to a peaceful future. Plus

From my earliest days, I wanted to be a teacher. In summer holidays, I was the student that took home all the extra worksheets so that I could play school during summer vacation. Of course, when playing …either with my sister or friends, I was always the teacher.

I did go on to become a teacher – a music teacher after completing studies at the University of Winnipeg and Mennonite Brethren Bible College.

My journey to Trustee began several years after our son entered elementary school. Being a small rural school allowed me to get to know the community really well but in so doing, I recognized through our son's education journey and by speaking with others that there were challenges not being addressed at the school level. So, I searched for answers and after careful consideration and with support from family and friends, decided that the role of Trustee would allow me to express my concerns, understand in greater detail how and why decisions were made and share information back to my community.

I believe in the power of Public Education and that it is the bridge that brings schools and communities together; where one can learn from the other by the development of new programs and skills that can benefit both parties.

I believe in advocating for our student body with special needs. It is imperative, even more than ever before, that we continue the focus on mental health and health living to provide youth with the knowledge and ability to feel that they are valued, that they belong and that we care enough to provide them with the supports they need to become productive individuals. Everyone who walks through our doors needs to feel a sense of value, worth and acceptance.

For the past 12 years in my role as Trustee, I was privileged to serve as Chair of the Program Committee, Special Education Advisory Committee and Expulsion Committee as well as serve on several others including Budget, Equity Diversity and Inclusion, Resource and Parent Involvement Committees.

In the spring of 2022, I was elected to serve on the Executive of the Ontario Public School Boards' Association and as Chair of the Central East Region. Previously, I represented Kawartha Pine Ridge DSB as its voting delegate for 3 years as well as serving for two years as the Central East Region's representative on OPSBA's Program Development Working Group where we examined upcoming and newly implemented changes in curriculum

I am running again because there is more work to do in Public Education and I want to continue to be a part of the story. We are at a critical juncture in Public Education in this province. The pandemic brought to the forefront a number of issues in healthcare, job security, employment standards, and of course, education. Plus
