Stephen MENSAHAbout Me:
Stephen Mensah serves as the Executive Director of the Toronto Youth Cabinet, the City of Toronto’s official youth advocacy body, where he advocates on behalf of Toronto's over 600,000 youth for a more …equitable and youth friendly city. He has been an active and engaged member in various communities across Toronto, including right here in Toronto - St. Paul’s where he serves as a Youth Director on the Board of Directors at For Youth Initiative, a local non-profit organization that has served and advocated for thousands of teens and young adults in the community since 1995.
Stephen was a Councillor Aide in the Office of Toronto Mayor John Tory where he supported the Mayor on his youth portfolio advancing the interests of equity-deserving young people at Toronto City Council.
He has been a longtime advocate for an equitable education, where all students can succeed and reach their full individual potential free of barriers and inequalities. He has firmly committed himself to that resolve and has successfully championed many causes from ensuring free menstrual products across Ontario schools to addressing anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism in our education system to promoting proactive measures to deal with the rising youth mental health crisis and so much more.
Education is essential to our sucess in life, witnessing first-hand how young people have experienced systemic and social barriers, Stephen is committed to being an advocate for change by using his commitment, passion, experience and proven track record to support the people of Ward 9: Toronto - St. Paul's, Spadina - Fort York, Toronto Centre and University - Rosedale.
As your TCDSB Trustee I will:
1. Push for an expansion of student nutrition programs to address the rising food prices and insecurity made worse by the pandemic. I believe no child should go to school hungry.
2. Leverage my relationships with the Ministry of Education to push for more mental health support staff to ensure our students receive the right care at the right time.
3. Fight for additional per-child funding for schools to address learning gaps and invest in people and programs; expanded day/summer school that will serve all students.
I am grateful to have the endorsement and full support of Current Ward 9 Trustee Norm Di Pasquale.
Join me to ensure that all of our students are able to succeed and reach their full individual potential! More -
Cameron MIRANDA-RADBORDAbout Me:
Parents work hard to help their children succeed - they deserve a Catholic Trustee who puts kids first.
I want to put an end to the distractions of divisive politics and personal ambition. My focus …is helping students reach their full potential - by investing in their classrooms and building new Catholic schools for them to learn in.
I live in Ward 9, and I have a proven track record of delivering for students in our community.
During the pandemic, I organized accessible vaccination clinics at Catholic Schools across the city for young people with special needs.
Today, I oversee the largest per-student endowment in Canada as a member of the Board of Regents of Victoria University.
After two years of disruption, I believe our students will emerge stronger than ever. I have the positive vision our Board needs to ensure they thrive. More -
Kevin MORRISONElectedAbout Me:
My name is Kevin Morrison, and I am your trustee candidate. There are several crucial issues facing our schools and students that need to be addressed immediately. When elected I will;
• Push for …mental health and tutoring resources to get our students back on track and eliminate the serious educational impact of the pandemic
• Work to get two news schools built, including a much-needed elementary school in the Regent Park community and a downtown high-school to meet the needs of young male students - currently there is no high-school for male students in the ward
• Work to get much needed repairs and improve the energy efficiency of our schools – a true NetZero goal can be achieved sooner with hard work and vision
• I will work hard to bring our faith back to our students and reconnect our schools and parishes. For years the pandemic has kept us apart.
Both my daughters attended Catholic school and my youngest is currently in high school. Over the past 14 years I have been chair of all three parent councils at the schools my children attended – I am currently chair of the parent council at my daughter’s high school. For five years I was an executive member on the Toronto Catholic Parent Involvement Committee – a statutory committee of the board that works to encourage parental inclusion and promote student achievement.
I am the only candidate that brings 14 years of school board and parental involvement experience. I also have more than 25 years of professional work experience and I regularly work with large budgets in a business setting. All of these are important transferable skills and experience for the role of Trustee.
There are no other active candidates with my level of education, experience, and connection to Catholic education. More -
Edith PEARSONAbout Me:
My name is Edith Pearson and I am running for TCDSB Trustee for Ward 9. I have been a member of the Catholic School Parents Council for more than ten years, as well as secretary and co-chair. I am living …in TCDSB ward 9 and have lived here for the past 10 years. I am also a member of St.Peter's parish. What set me apart from other candidates is that being a Trustee is not merely a first step toward a political career but a position to defend and promote Catholic education. More
