2022 Election
Halton Catholic District School Board
Burlington Wards 1 and 2
Number of Available Seats: 1-
Vincent Enzo IANTOMASIAbout Me:
I have lived in the Aldershot area of Burlington for the past 28 years and have been married to my wife Arlene for the past 41 years. Our daughter was a graduate of both our elementary and secondary schools …in Halton Catholic. I have been a member of Holy Rosary Parish in Burlington, since 1994 where I have been a community representative.
Over the last four years, I have provided dedicated and diligent service as a a strong voice for our Catholic community on our school board. I was Chair of the Board 2019-2020. I have been a director on OCSTA (Ontario Catholic Trustee Association). I served on Assumption Catholic Secondary School Parent Council as Chair. I also served on the Building Improvement Committee responsible for renovations at Assumption. I was on the Field Improvement Committee Responsible for the Installation of Artificial Fields throughout the Halton Catholic Board.
I have an unwavering passion for the families and the students who are part of our Catholic heritage. I endeavor to ensure that there is transparency and accountability at all levels of our school system.
With a keen eye to legislative regulations of the Ministry of Education, municipal requirements and Board policies and by-laws, I have voiced support for all students equitably and fairly.
I have worked tirelessly to ensure that the trustee obligations of a Catholic trustee are upheld – fiscal responsibility and strong policy creation to support our denominational rights and inclusion of all students’ individual challenges.
As our children venture into the diversity of the world today, it is increasingly necessary for them to be able to utilize their God-given individual gifts to make the right choices. A Christ-centered education offers them the foundation upon which they can draw, grow and mature: Our faith equips them with the tools to accept all of life's joys and navigate through its challenges and hardships.
As your trustee, my focus will be to continue to work hard to ensure our children's academic success and well-being in the education they receive. As part of the generation who fought for full funding, my concern is that we, as community leaders, are responsible for maintaining and protecting the rich tradition of Catholic education for future generations. Kirsten KELLYElectedAbout Me:
I decided to run as a Board Trustee to serve our community and help uplift the concerns of our students and community stakeholders.
I understand this responsibility as a former student trustee and …a recent Halton Catholic District School Board alumnus. Students are one of the primary demographics impacted by school policies and procedures; for such reasons, I will be a strong advocate in ensuring that students can realize their full potential in an educational environment that welcomes and supports them.
Equity and inclusivity are vital factors in my platform. I believe that all staff and students should feel safe in all school environments, regardless of ability, race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, and religion. I would pursue an educational environment where teachers feel confident to take on a diverse class where all identities are celebrated and accepted, and students can see themselves represented and celebrated throughout our system.
As an elected trustee, I want to ensure that the residents of Wards 1 & 2 elect me with the confidence that I will represent their interests in the Catholic school board. I am fortunate to have two younger siblings in elementary and secondary school and a relative who works in HCDSB. My relationship with them gives me insight into their daily life in our educational environment. I find it essential that board trustees stay involved in the community, especially in our schools, to understand the needs of our community continuously. I have already worked with many organizations that help me understand the different perspectives and conditions of our region and school board. This includes HCDSB's Student Senate, the Compassion Society of Halton, the Ontario Student Trustees' Association, Positive Space Network, Burlington Youth Council, and Burlington's Kumon Learning Centre.
Our Halton Catholic community requires a change to ensure that the needs of staff, students, and stakeholders are met by trustees who want to support them. Help me serve our community in Christ's name by electing me, and I will pursue an educational system where everyone can succeed in a supportive environment. More

Trish NICHOLLS-POWELLElectedAbout Me:
For the last 30 years, I've been a proud supporter of the Halton Catholic District School Board. As a graduate, a parent of four sons in the HSDSB, as a parent volunteer, a member and Chair of the Catholic …School council, I've seen the district change, grow and be a place of student success. I want HSDSB to continue this strong history of serving our children’s variety of educational needs. My family moved from Oakville to Burlington’s Ward 6 in 2004 and we have been a part of the St. Gabriel parish community ever since.
I have been a strong advocate for children with special needs for over 10 years, as two of my sons are neuro-diverse. While grateful for the care and accommodations that my sons received within the HCDSB, I want to ensure every child has their own unique needs met regardless of disability, race, gender, sexual orientation or socio-economic status.
The last two years of this pandemic were challenging for many families, students and educators. I see the learning gap in my own children and know from many conversations that many parents and educators are also concerned. The pandemic has also had an impact on the mental health and wellbeing of students and those around them. Statistics show large increases in the percentage of youth experiencing emotional, attentional, or behavioral difficulties since March 2020. These concerns are a priority for me, as I run to serve the students, parents and educators of the HSDSB. My leadership skills, understanding of community needs, advocacy work and passion for serving families make me the right team member to address these educational challenges.
With a business education and a media background, I come to the school board table with a fresh set of eyes, strong leadership skills and get-the-job-done personality. Combined with many years of building stakeholder relationships within the Halton community, I am not afraid to ask questions and I value accountability and transparency. My unique and multifaceted perspective provides a solid foundation for the Trustee position.

Brenda AGNEWElectedAbout Me:
I am a wife and a mother to two teen sons attending school at HCDSB in Burlington and a proud product of the Catholic school system myself. I was elected as Burlington trustee in 2018, and have been involved …in school council since 2012, and with the HCDSB Special Education Advisory Committee since 2014. As a parent of a son who has Cerebral Palsy and is profoundly deaf, I credit my experiences raising him with igniting a passion to advocate for inclusion, diversity and accessibility, and aligning those with our faith, which also drives much of the volunteer work with which I am involved. I am a dedicated and active member of the Burlington community and am a big supporter of our schools and our community organizations.
As a candidate, I strive to be a fair, committed, dedicated and passionate advocate for our education system. My personal experience as a parent to a child with a disability and special education needs has provided unique (albeit challenging) situations that I have had to navigate both within education and in the outside world. I firmly believe that we are all created equal in the eyes of God and should be treated as such, while also recognizing that our needs are all different and we have to be able to create ways to meet those needs. I have proven that I am not afraid to ask the difficult questions, challenge the status quo, and hold people accountable, including myself. I have shown through my work at the HCDSB that I am committed to the hard work needed to establish and maintain relationships, including the triad of home, school and parish and to always aim to work collaboratively to find solutions. He took on a personal mission of building a Social Capital Fund of $100,000,000. His efforts to date exceed $70,000,000 including the $500,000 lead gift that led to the construction of the Carpenter Hospice, Palliative Care facility in Burlington, Ontario.
Rick and his wife Justine are grateful and fortunate to have been philanthropic throughout their lives to literally hundreds of worthy causes in Halton both directly and through their Foundations.

Rick believes it is imperative that we get back to the fundamental principles of Christ's teachings in our Catholic School System. Janet O’HEARN-CZARNOTAElectedAbout Me:
I am a very proud mother of two wonderful children who have been educated within the Halton Catholic District School Board. I, myself, was educated within the Toronto Catholic District School Board and …am very proud of our Catholic School Boards.
My husband and I have been married for 25 years and have lived in Halton Hills for over 18 years. I have been an active member of Elementary School Councils as well as Secondary School Council at CTK prior to becoming a Catholic School Trustee, voted in by Halton Hills residents. I was also the representative for OAPCE and humbly won the Parent of the Year award from CPIC (which I truly treasure). As a sitting Halton Catholic District School Board Trustee currently, I have made decisions at the Board table that I feel were in the best interest of the entire Board and through a Catholic Lens. I will continue to represent Region 13 at the OCSTA Directors table to ensure we have a voice. I bring logic without any personal agendas to the Board and will continue to work with our Staff, Students, Admin, Parents, Church to assist in continuing to make our Halton Catholic District School Board exemplary. I will take the role of Trustee very seriously, as I have for the past 4 years , and will continue to listen to the voices of parents, staff, students, admin to create fulsome policies and procedures; ensure proper fiduciary lens of responsibility for our public monies, work with all for Student Achievement , and ensure that the Halton Catholic District School Board continues to grow, flourish and learn from past mistakes. I may not be the loudest at the table; but believe me when I say, I have, and will continue to put my head, my faith and heart into this worthy position and will work towards this end.
Thank you for your consideration. More

Marvin DUARTEElectedAbout Me:
I am an experienced Catholic Leader with a proven track record of enabling student achievement and advocating for Milton and the broader Halton communities.
Education Governance is a highly regulated …and complex environment which requires an analytical and strategic approach, and the ability to collaborate with others to produce results. My track record - as Milton Trustee and as Chair of the Board of Trustees - over the past 4 years has demonstrated those results. I commit to continuing that work for our community for the next 4 years. Please check my website for more details. More -

Katherine CIRLINCIONEAbout Me:
I am an alumnus of the HCDSB system and a resident of Milton since 2004. Active community volunteer, working with youth to organize and run in-school reading programs, sports-centred summer camps and a …Mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada since 2018. I started a non-profit during the pandemic focused on nutritious food options.
I am running for trustee because I want to advocate for my community's students, teachers, staff and families through a lens of diversity, equity and progress. Factors like budget restrictions and learning through the COVID-19 pandemic, along with many other variables, make it clear that our families need support.
School is often where students spend most of their time building relationships that impact their futures. In that case, we must continue to fight for the kind of education experience focusing on mental, spiritual and academic growth that will empower the success of those within HCDSB. More -
Emma MURPHYElectedAbout Me:
As a parent of children who are students in the HCDSB and as a former teacher, I am running to be the voice of parents who, like myself, want more input into what their children are learning and what their …day-to-day educational experience looks like.
My first priority is to emphasize academic rigor with a focus on math and literacy. Secondly, I will focus on prioritizing a Catholic, value based education at our Catholic schools. Finally, I want to see parental choice brought to the forefront. Parents should have full access to what their children are learning, and also be permitted to give their informed consent regarding school activities and programs.
If elected, I will work with the other members of the board to address the learning gaps that have appeared over the past years. As well, I will reach out to parents in my wards in order to build relationships with them and to understand their concerns more fully. More

Alex POWERAbout Me:
I am a running for HCDSB Trustee because our children and our community need a voice at the table. I am a mother of 3 children, all attending school within HCDSB, and a Family Physician working in Student …Health. I am been an active and engaged member of the HCDSB community, participating in my schools Parent Council as co-chair and as a member of the HCDSB Equity Advisory Committee. I have delegated at the Board table several times. I live my life in a way that reflects my Catholic values. I advocate for marginalized populations because my voice has power and I was taught, by my family and by my faith, that I needed to use my God given strengths in the service of others.
As your Trustee, I will put the needs of our students first. I will focus on student success and achievement. We have excellent programming at our schools but these need to be further cultivated. We need to ensure that we are a leader in public education by expanding our STEM and Arts programming.
All students and staff deserve to have a safe place to learn and work. I will continue to make all my decisions using a lens of equity and inclusion. I will work to ensure that we take every step possible to combat the racism and harassment that has been occurring within our schools by continuing to develop infrastructure for a transparent reporting process.
I have experience working with diverse groups of people and using my mediation skills to come to a successful outcome. I will use this at the Board table to ensure that our Board runs effectively.
Thank you!

Ian MCCOMBEAbout Me:
I am running for the position of Halton Catholic District School Board Trustee representing Oakville Wards 4 & 7. Oakville has been my home for more than 35 years and was the natural choice to raise our …family as well. In fact, my wife and I both grew up in Oakville, attending HCDSB schools at both the elementary and secondary levels. We currently have one child attending HCDSB elementary in Oakville and a toddler who will start in a few years. Professionally I am employed as a software engineer.
I would like to make HCDSB the model of public education in our province by pushing for advances in both equity and student success. As a concerned community member, I have delegated numerous times before this Board of Trustees, advocating for staff and students when they had been ignored. I would like to continue this work as a trustee and look forward to having the opportunity to work with the community to ensure that all voices are heard. As a professional engineer, I have a proven track record of working with others in a respectful and professional manner, something which is very much needed, to pursue a common goal: success for every single member of our school community. Sylvia AGORUA-UZONWANNEAbout Me:
I have been an Oakville resident since 2015 together with my husband and 2 kids and over the years I have witnessed our town demographics change.
This beautiful change is why I decided to run - …representation matters and our school board needs more diversity and more varied voices at the table.
So why is Sylvia running?
I believe that if our elected boards don't better reflect the diversity of people it’s supposed to represent, that means there are tons of voices, perspectives, issues, challenges that certain communities are facing that are not captured at the table! Where decisions affecting them and their children are made. I am running because diverse representation enriches, broadens and deepens our decision-making processes.
I do also believe the curriculum, the teachers, and the children's needs should be at the forefront of the board decisions. I am here to listen, and this is an opportunity to lead change while working on behalf of children, their families, and the community. More -
