As Trustee I will have the opportunity to be your voice in influencing policy development that affects our children. What is your vision for education in 2014 and beyond? What, if any, needs are not being met for you and your children? I want to know the answers to these questions. I ask for your support and in exchange I promise to work hard on behalf of the parents and students in Ajax to be a conduit for information on the issues affecting education. I will also regularly attend School Council meetings to keep constituents informed on Board decisions and to stay abreast of the issues affecting the diverse areas within the Town of Ajax. These topics and issues will be covered on my website to keep parents and students up to date on the current issues and policies affecting our schools in Ajax.
As a parent with a child currently attending one of our schools (and another child who soon will be), I know first-hand the challenges that families face in navigating the school system today. As your Ajax Catholic Trustee, I hope to hear from you and listen to your suggestions and concerns, to bring back for discussion at the board table. I firmly believe that school board trustees and administration should respond to the community they serve.
Margaret Stack, a former Durham Catholic Student, is the currently serving Trustee for the City of Oshawa for the Durham Catholic School Board. Margaret began volunteering with Durham Catholic schools 15 years ago. Until becoming a Trustee, she served as a parent member of her Elementary and Secondary Catholic Parent Councils, including serving as Chair. She has served at the regional level on the Durham Catholic Parent Involvement Committee and continues to serve this committee as the assigned Trustee Member. Having graduated from both Nursing and Applied Science and Engineering programs and having Global Business experience, Margaret immediately took on Leadership roles as a Trustee. Currently she is the Chair of the Finance Committee, and the Trustee Award of Merit Committee, along with serving as the Trustee appointed to Supervised Alternative Learning Committee among others. Margaret and her husband Chad are raising three sons, all Durham Catholic Students for their entire Primary, Elementary and Secondary School years. One has graduated from the DCDSB and is in Post Secondary at UOIT in Oshawa, one who is in Secondary in Grade 10 in and one who is in Elementary in Grade 4. Margaret is a passionate advocate for all of the Catholic ratepayers, students, families and staff that she serves and has demonstrated her commitment with a perfect attendance record.
For most of my life, I’ve lived in Durham Region. My 3 girls attend St. Mark the Evangelist School in Whitby, and we are parishioners of Holy Family Parish. For the last 4 years, I have been a member and co-chair of the Parent Council at St. Mark’s, where I have appreciated the chance to have a positive impact on our school community. As a result of my experiences at St. Mark’s and in my own career in property management, I recognize that the job of trustee involves promoting and maintaining our faith-based school system, putting students first, and striving for excellence in all functions of the Board. With your support, I look forward to the opportunity to bring my skill set to the role of trustee and support the strength I see in the Durham Catholic District School Board.
